# Get Started with Lumina: From Setup to First Order

> Set up your Lumina self-ordering kiosk from scratch — connect Square, build your menu, and take your first live order in under 20 minutes.

This guide walks you through everything you need to go from a blank slate to a fully operational Lumina Kiosk accepting live orders. You'll do most of the setup from **Remy** (Lumina's operator app) on your smartphone, then register your iPad as the Kiosk. Most restaurants finish in under 20 minutes.

Before you start, have all three of these on hand — you'll need them to complete setup:

* Your **smartphone** to run Remy
* Your **iPad** to run the Lumina Kiosk app
* Your **Square reader** to take payments

<Steps>
  <Step title="Download Remy">
    Remy is Lumina's operator app where you set up and manage every aspect of your kiosk — menus, profiles, devices, and more.

    Download it to your smartphone before doing anything else:

    **[Download Remy →](https://onelink.to/remy)**
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create your Lumina account">
    Open Remy and tap **Sign Up** to create your Lumina account and business profile. This account is what ties your Square catalog, menus, and registered devices together.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect your Square account">
    Lumina runs on top of Square — your menu items, prices, and orders all live in your Square catalog.

    1. From the Remy home screen, tap the **circle icon** in the upper-left corner to open the app menu.
    2. Tap **Square Integration**, then tap **Connect**.
    3. Sign into your Square account and grant Lumina access.

    Once connected, Remy pulls in your catalog automatically. You'll see **"Syncing with your Square library…"** with a progress indicator.

    <Info>
      This sync happens once, at the time of connection. It may take **up to 10 minutes** depending on the size of your Square catalog. Wait for it to finish before moving on to the next step.
    </Info>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create a menu">
    Once the sync is complete, open the **Menus** tab in Remy and tap the **+** button to create a new menu. Remy gives you two ways to build it:

    * **Create from Square Categories** — mirrors the categories you've already set up in Square. This is the fastest option if your Square catalog is organized the way you want your Kiosk to look.
    * **Add Menu Groups** — build groups by hand and add items individually. Use this to create a fully custom menu layout for your Kiosk.

    Pick whichever approach matches your setup. You can adjust groups and items at any time afterward.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create a kiosk profile">
    A **profile** is the bundle a Kiosk runs — it ties together your menu, welcome screen, and security PIN. You assign a profile to a device when you register it.

    1. Tap **Create a New Profile**.
    2. Give the profile a descriptive name, such as *"Front counter"* or *"Patio"*.

    You'll select this profile when you register your iPad as a Kiosk in the next step.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Download the Lumina Kiosk app">
    On the iPad that will serve as your Kiosk, open the App Store and install the **Lumina Kiosk** app. Keep the iPad nearby — you'll pair it with Remy in the next step.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Register the Kiosk">
    Pair your iPad with your Remy account so it runs as a managed Kiosk.

    1. Open the Lumina Kiosk app on the iPad — it displays a **QR code** and a **6-character pairing code**.
    2. In Remy, go to the **Devices** tab and tap **Register a Kiosk**.
    3. Pair the devices using either method:
       * Tap **Scan QR Code** and point your phone at the iPad's screen, **or**
       * Tap **Enter Pairing Code** and type the 6-character code shown on the iPad.
    4. **Tap to select location**, then **Tap to select profile** — choose the profile you created in Step 5.

    <Note>
      Make sure your smartphone and iPad are on the same Wi-Fi network before pairing. If the QR scan doesn't work, use the manual pairing code instead.
    </Note>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect a Square reader">
    Finish setup by pairing a Square reader so the Kiosk can accept payments.

    1. On the iPad, tap **Add a Reader**.
    2. Follow the on-screen prompts to pair your Square reader over Bluetooth.
    3. Wait for the **Reader Connected** confirmation before proceeding.
  </Step>
</Steps>
